Introduction
In Singapore, when you hire a maid, Maid Insurance is a government-required insurance policy that you are required to purchase as an employer. As the employer of a foreign domestic worker, you are required to provide medical and personal accident coverage. The Maid Insurance Plan is a comprehensive plan that provides care to the domestic helper while also safeguarding unexpected expenses and liabilities for you as an employer.
What does the product cover?
In considering a Maid Insurance Plan, you have to decide whether a policy fulfils your requirements as an employer and protects your maid simultaneously. The policy should provide enough coverage for you and your helper so that if something unexpected happens, you will be protected. Most plans cover any work-related accidents and medical care charges sustained by your maid and also issue a security bond to the Ministry of Manpower. A lump sum will be compensated to the family of your maid if an unfortunate accident causes your maid’s death or she suffers from permanent disability. There is also the option to purchase add-ons to enhance your coverage too. All of these provide your domestic helper with the appropriate care without worrying about the costs.
Comprehensive Care
The hospital bills and day surgery expenses up to the plan limits will be taken care of. Reimbursement of outpatient expenses is included if the maid meets with minor accidents. Where required, the policy will cover your maid if inpatient care and day surgery is required because of an illness, disease or injury.
Coverage for Unforeseen Circumstances
A lump sum will be paid out in the unfortunate event that your maid meets with an accident and is disabled or passes away. The plan also helps with the costs of repatriation should the maid not be able to work due to an accident, illness, disease or death. The expenses incurred for a domestic replacement helper will be reimbursed if the helper is certified to be disabled, medically unfit or passes away.
Peace of Mind for you as the Employer
The plan includes a Letter of Guarantee to the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) for the required security bond, and as the employer, you do not have to pay for the bond. You can also be assured that your helper is protected if she accidentally injures someone or their property while carrying out her duties.
